“In June 2023, I proposed to Cristina Zavalloni, a renowned singer and composer both in the operatic and jazz fields, to write lyrics for one of my pieces, which I had initially written for an instrumental ensemble. This is how “Il Tempo Fermo” was born. From there, the idea of recording an album together was born, and “Prado” and “Lo Spazio di un Secondo” were created. “Nella Mente Degli Altri” is a composition of mine on which Cristina performs the theme with vocalizes, while “Resto” is a piece entirely written by Cristina. The only non-original piece is “Tempo”, a song by Lucio Dalla on which I have carried out a melodic and harmonic reworking. I personally handled all the arrangements, paying special attention to the string section. Violinist Marcello Sirignano guided the string recording session. There is also the participation of the saxophonist Maurizio Giammarco and the oboist Felipe Sosa, while the rhythm section features the pianist Sebastian Marino and the drummer Alessandro Marzi.”

“The album has a common thread: time, in its various forms as we perceive it, its flow and its stagnation without resolution.
The cover photo was taken by Giacomo Pugliese in the Omani desert.
I chose it because it fully represents the spirit of the work: in our imagination, time in the desert, although it flows like everywhere else, feels still.
There are no rhythms of the incessant and fast-paced becoming that define our modern lives; yet this single tuft of grass seems to tell us that our life continues beyond all the superstructures we are subjected to every day.“
